Hello World

Thirty is a milestone. Joseph was thirty years old when he started working for Pharaoh.Gen. 41:46 David was thirty years old when he began to rule as king over Israel in Hebron.2 Sam. 5:4 According to Hesiod, thirty years old is the right time for a man to find a wife.Hesiod, Works and Days, 695-7 I am thirty years old today, and I am starting a blog. Well, it's something.
To be honest (and what are blogs for if not to be honest?), building this blog has been a fun programming challenge and creative outlet, but I have been mostly consumed with that, rather than with what, if anything, I might write on it. But now that I have brought a blog into the world, hopefully it will encourage me to work on my writing a bit. We will have to see how it goes. I may post about Semitic languages, but it is perhaps more likely that I will use it to explore my more peripheral interests. Like the history of the doctrine of God, or idealist philosophy, or ancient tragedy. I will probably focus on ideas that I am not sure about, or would like to be more sure about, which is where you come in, gentle reader. We have a comment system, a threaded comment system, no less (which is more trouble to set up than you can imagine), so with your help, we may fulfill the Scripture, “There is salvation in many counselors.”Prov. 11:14 // 24:6
For now, all we have are a couple flashcard apps for learning Egyptian and Akkadian signs (under “Languages”), and an “About” section. Well, that and a state-of-the-art marginal citation system to keep track of quotes and allusions. But hey, don't despise the day of small things.Zech. 4:10
